SWG Legends news // *Friday Feature: Making the Trade*

The trade system in Star Wars Galaxies is one of the game's most useful utilities. It allows you to share with other players, grow your in game businesses, and overall just makes life in the galaxy run a bit more smoothly. In today's Friday Feature, we're taking a closer look at the ins and outs of using this powerful tool!
As an added bonus, we'll be joined by debonaire businessman Lando Calrissian, who will be giving his expert advice on how to make the most of your trades. Let's get right into it.

Trading Basics
The in game trading system allows you to trade items and credits between your own and other characters. You can trade via your inventory or your datapad, though there are a few limitations on this. For example, hatched pets and starships in your datapad cannot be traded via this system, and there's a few vehicles in game that cannot be traded either. Familiars, mounts, credits, even droids can be traded.
Top tip!: If your droid is giving you the message that it cannot be traded, try looking in its item storage compartment. There's likely a No Trade or No Trade Shared item in there. Which brings us neatly into our next topic of discussion.
No Trade/No Trade Shared
If you examine an item in game, there's a chance you'll see NO TRADE or NO TRADE SHARED in big red letters. Both of these designations affect if and how an item can be traded. To make it simple - No trade items are bound to a character, and no trade shared items are bound to an account.
That being said, there's a couple of details to keep in mind about these items:
No Trade:
  • The item cannot be traded by any means between your own or other characters.
  • In order to place a No Trade item in a structure, it has to be a structure owned by the character who possesses the item.
  • Once placed in your structure, your alts and other characters cannot remove the item.

No Trade Shared:
  • The item can only be traded between your own characters, and cannot be traded to other players.
  • If you drop a No Trade Shared item inside of a structure, other characters on your account are able to pick it up. The item will need to be dropped off in a structure that character owns.
  • The only exception to the above is if the item is inside a container, such as a chest or a backpack. You'll need to take the item out and place it outside of the container.
  • Other players are not able to pick up your No Trade Shared items from your house, even if they are on your structure admin list. (This doesn't mean you shouldn't still be careful with who you let on that list, but it's worth mentioning regardless!)

Biolinked Items:
Another thing to consider when you are trading is biolinked items, as they can potentially pose a problem if you attempt to trade or purchase one.
  • If you inspect an item and find that it is biolinked to a specific player, it means only that player can use it. In such instances, trading the item to someone else may result in them receiving only an expensive decoration, as they won't be able to use the item.
  • Biolinks cannot be removed unless a Support Ticket is submitted—only applicable if the biolink occurred within the last seven days, and if the item is being transferred to another character within your own account.

It's a good idea to check and make sure an item is not biolinked before you accept a trade.
Now that we've gone over a few item statuses that could affect your plans to trade, let's get down to actually making the trade! Don't worry, the complicated part is behind us now, and even that wasn't too complicated in the end!

Making the Trade
Alright, got your item to trade, and the person you're looking to trade with? Great. Simply radial them (using the tilde ~ key) and select "Start Trading". You'll get a notice that a trade request was sent to that character, which means they will need to complete the same process on you.
Trading Items
Once both parties initialize the trade, you'll be greeted with the Secure Trade window. Press I to select your inventory, or press K for your datapad, and simply drag what you'd like to trade to the side of the window that has your name on it. When you're happy with the trade, click the box next to "Accept Trade" on your side of the trade window. When you've done that, the person will need to do the same on their side. Press OK and you're set!

Bonus Top Tip!: Make sure to check any backpacks you're trading for No Trade or No Trade Shared items! The presence of these items will render the backpack inaccessible to anyone but the backpack owner.
Trading Credits
Perhaps you'd like to offer some money with the trade, or just want to quickly trade some credits between your characters. No problem. You can do that too! The benefit of using a trade and not tips is that a larger amount can be transferred - up to 99,999,999 credits. In comparison, tips are maxed out at increments of one million credits at a time. The trade window also has the advantage of commas to define exact credit amounts, making trades of credits both quick and easy.
The trade window comes with an "Offer Money" option at the bottom of the window. Simply type in the amount of credits you'd like to trade. If you get a message saying you don't have enough credits to make the trade, it's because credits are traded via inventory and not the bank. So you likely don't have enough cash on hand. Transferring some credits from the bank to your cash balance will fix that.

Then just go through the process outlined above with trading items: the steps are all the same! Boom! Some sweet cash is now yours.
